This short film has been making the rounds online since last thursday with astounding speed. Charlene deGuzman video ‘I Forgot My Phone’ shows how alienating life can be due to the ever present devices most of us carry with us everywhere.
I understand the draw of being plugged in. Just last week my wife called me out for how often I’ve been using the new Nexus 7 tablet I got. It is easy to seek amusement or information when it appears to be so close by. Yet every moment spent immersed is a moment away from something else.
While Charlene leaves the meaning of the two minute video open to the authors interpretation, it doesn’t seem to me to be a blanket distain for modern mobile tech. Rather I felt the call to use technology wisely, in a way that fosters relationships and the connectedness between one another.
Often when people ask why I started Fresh Vine this is similar to my response. I want to help people deepen relationships, and form new relationships of immense transformative value. Technology can help us do this, it can prompt conversations, and alert us to key moments in the lives of those around us.
This is one of the reasons why I love our new tagline here at Fresh Vine: Get Rooted and Grow. It encapsulates this desire to bring people together in meaningful ways, to help their roots go deep, and to bare fruit in their communities.
We’re really excited about this journey, creating technology that fosters connectedness and growth, and for the years ahead of doing this together with you.
