A new version of our Event Kiosk is out. In it the back end was rebuilt to fix issues with label printing many experienced. There are also a couple visible improvements to share with you.
New Label Designs
The previous label designs included a black bar with white text across the bottom. While visually pleasing, it would sometimes leave the text illegible. This was the result of scaling the label when printed. The overall content & positioning of the labels has remained the same. The primary improvement was to remove the black bar, and then adjusted the layout of the text to be visually balanced.
The tag and claim labels were also adjusted to use a large tag icon instead of the words Tag and Claim. This boosts simplicity, and allows the kiosk to work better for non-english speaking organizations.
Media Caching Sync Progress
Around 20% of the organizations using the Kiosk do so in offline mode. The Kiosk supports this by having a local cache of profile, event, and media data. The media consists of profile photos, logos, background images, and label images. It is stored with a separate tool – jQuery Cache Images – which we maintain as an open source project on GitHub. This library was updated to make it easy to add a progress bar.
In the Kiosk there are now 3 different colors for the progress bar. This helps you understand what is happening.
If media is being cached when other data is being processed the blue bar will appear above the regular progress bar.
When syncing data to use later in offline mode ensure all progress bars have finished. Exiting the application early can result in missing graphics and images.
We’re working hard to get more information in the documentation site for the kiosk. Over the next couple weeks more information will be added. To date we’ve drastically expanded that included information. Make sure to check it out.
Windows version now in 64 & 32 bit versions
Providing both versions from here forward ensure a more optimized experience base. The installers you can download will verify that you have downloaded the correct version. If you attempt to install the incorrect version the installer will not run.
